After All These Years, Do You Not Instinctively Fear Me?

Episode 3.20: The Bitch is Back. Original Airdate 5.22.07

“Furious that Logan attacked Piz, Veronica tells Logan she wants nothing to do with him. Parker confronts Logan about still having feelings for Veronica, while Piz assures Veronica that he had nothing to do with the sex tape. Veronica, with Weevil’s help, investigates how the tape originated and discovers a person from her past is linked to The Castle and pays them a visit. With the re-election campaign nearing, Keith steps in to protect Veronica.”

Zelda's Thoughts:

  • As the finale begins, I wonder if we should have tracked other things in our Stats section, like slut-shaming, bigoted remarks (including Logan's racism, that fun bout of transphobia, and Wallace's random homophobic edge this season), sexual assault and other fun.
  • Oh, I hadn’t realized V and Piz didn’t have sex. It’s not a full sex tape but it’s enough to be awful.
  • Oh Parker exists in time for the finale. And she’s here to chew out Logan for beating the shit out of Piz, making it clear he’s still in love with Veronica.
  • The one TINY bone I’ll throw to Logan here is remembering that this must be triggering for him. Women he love getting videotaped in the act is, awfully, not new. Last time he destroyed the tapes and in the action helped his monster father escape conviction.
  • But hell did he cross the line. Going to punch-land without full knowledge.
  • “It’s like you’re this giant jackass pinata begging for someone to beat the candy out of you."
  • Wow, Dick forwarded the Veronica video to his entire address book. What a shit. "I always forward porn. When it's good." / “You are going to be so popular in hell.”
  • Aw Weevil is offering his help to V for whatever revenge she takes. “Whatever you need, I’m in.” See, way better than punching willy nilly.
  • It’s an interesting move, especially since the show didn’t get renewed, that she says “and I'm back in high school,” surrounded by people who think they know what her sex life is.
  • Chip Diller is way too boring to have been in this many episodes this season. I wonder if Daniel would recognize him without the namedrop.
  • And like "A Trip to the Dentist," V is making her rounds, person to person, til she can find the source of her latest attack.
  • HAH V messed with douchbro Domonick's [yeah, this is spelled correctly-IMDb] credit card and his car. Bless Weevil and his particular set of skills.
  • V’s singing Daniel Powter's "Bad Day," Domonick approaches her threateningly, and she zaps her taser. Don’t fuck with the lords of hell Veronica.
  • Aww that’s why V was chewing gum. She planted a bug.
  • And boom. Wallace is one of the pledges. Which I guess explains why there was a camera in the dorm room he shares with Piz.
  • Oooh time to bring back Nish Sweeney, our resident expert on secret societies I guess.
  • My sister Rachel, who is half-watching with us, wants us to call a shenanigan on the fact that this secret society, The Castle, who recruits potentially influential people, includes engineers in that list of influencers (Wallace is an engineering major, for those keeping score)
  • Everything about this initiation is awful and I hate it.
  • Making Wallace tell all his deepest secrets on camera is having strong strains of the fun they have at Scientology, and I'm wondering now if this is a dig of some sort at the fact that Jason Dohring is a Scientologist. Also wow Wallace must really care about helping Veronica, willing to put all of this on camera, for her. That’s a hell of a finale favor.
  • Hmm Veronica is willing to tase a random cat-caller. She and Logan might just be a match.
  • "I promise you, karma's going to take care of that guy for you." // "I know. I'm going to run him over with my karma."
  • Only Kristen Bell could crawl in through a doggy door.
  • And BOOM giant portrait of Lilly Kane. Because Jake Kane? Of course he’s part of the secret society.
  • Heh, I’d remembered the giant portrait of Lilly, and that Jake was involved. I’d forgotten the giant portrait of Duncan.

  • Clarence Weidman! Hi buddy!
  • LOL Sheriff Mars sees the doggy door, where only a tiny thief could break in. A tiny Mars thief.
  • Oh great our favorite lazy ass corrupt Deputy Gills.
  • Question. After Veronica wanders off to NY post-series, why does Keith stay in Neptune? It’s a shitty corrupt little hole of entitlement and racism.
  • And Keith finds what he knew he would find: Veronica’s sweater that got ripped by the doggy door frame.
  • Damn, Keith is willing to destroy evidence, wipe the tapes, to keep Veronica from getting prosecuted for the theft of the Kane hard drive.
  • Deputy Leo, in a drive-by appearance with no lines. Don't worry, Max Greenfield, your career will be fine!
  • So Veronica has the confessional videos and there’s some heavy duty criminal activity recorded on them. She’s not gonna release them, but she does give the member roster to Nish.
  • I love that for all the corrupt shit Lamb pulled while Sheriff, Keith is the one with the prosecutor coming after him. And by love I mean "Neptune is the effity worst."
  • Veronica votes, but I think we all know Keith just lost the election to Vinnie Van Lowe.
  • Which actually … I wonder how long that lasted, since by the time the film rolls around, both Keith and Vinnie are back in the private sector.
  • Y'all, we finished Veronica Mars. Except for the S4 pitch. And the film. And the books. And the new series.

Daniel's Thoughts:

  • Last episode!  This season has been kind of slog and to be honest, we’re both kind of happy it’s coming to an end.
  • We start out where we left off in the last episode: The thing Logan has to tell Veronica – is about her sex tape that it's now on the internet.
  • She loads in the CD-drive:  Remember those?
  • Piz looks really bad.  He’s completely bruised and Wallace is pissed.
  • I don’t understand how Veronica is back in Piz’s room and not looking for evidence.
  • She confronts him, but she knows he’s not guilty.  And I’m glad she realizes it but she has to ask.  And I’m also glad Piz doesn’t hold it against her.
  • Parker, in the mean time, breaks up with Logan because she knows he’s still in love with Veronica.
  • And Veronica, too, breaks up with Logan….in a friend way.  That’s two women in two minutes who break up with Logan.
  • No Credits!
  • And Veronica confronting Dick with absolutely total confidence and calm.  She’d make a great FBI agent.
  • So it’s from Chip Diller, the email that Dick got.  Which one is he again?
  • Weevil instantly offers his help, no matter what she needs. That’s a true friend.
  • Oh man, it’s that thing where all extras are instructed to look at the main character and they always overdo it.
  • Oh man, she is in FIGHT mode and it’s awesome.
  • And she totally loves that Chip is afraid of her.
  • Veronica IS THE BEST.  She cancels Domonick’s credit card; has Weevil remove the guy’s tires. And she has her taser, of course.
  • And now Gory.  What kind of a name is Gory?
  • Oh man, she bugged Gory’s room!
  • And it seems to be another fraternity related thing.  Surprise surprise.
  • Oh no, Wallace may be involved.  It looks like we’re visiting that secret society thing after all.
  • Wallace does Veronica one last favor of the series – he’s going to Rush and take some pictures.
  • So this secret society is called “The Castle” – and Nish is giving Veronica the dirt.
  • Wallace is instructed by a voice on a loudspeaker to go to a storage unit where there’s a video camera.  He’s instructed to strip down to his underwear (hope it’s clean!) – And wear a collar.  Fraternities are so homoerotic.
  • It’s a shock collar, though. And the catch is that if you lie, one of the other rushers gets zapped.
  • They seem to know a lot about Wallace and his secrets.
  • Wallace tells Veronica he stopped talking and that’s why they kicked him out.  But he did figure out one thing.  When they were calling him “3”, it wasn’t an ordered number of rushes that were there.  “3” was his basketball jersey number.  So he heard them call someone else “2400” and realized that might be the nickname of a guy he heard of who was known for getting a 2400 on his SATs.  Smart guy, that Wallace.
  • “Karma’s gonna get him.” “I know. I’m gonna run him over with my Karma”
  • Oh shizznit.  I did not expect/remember this.  Veronica breaks into the mansion where the society is meeting and sees a giant painted picture of Lilly.
  • When they were grilling the rushes, it was all about keeping ‘confessions’
  • And there’s another portrait.  This one of Duncan.
  • Oh, that’s Jake Kane.  Wow, I completely forgot about him.
  • Oops, Keith finds something:

  • Mac does Veronica a favor, too.
  • And Weevil does Veronica another favor by getting her into the computer lounge.
  • And Keith is furious.
  • Jake Kane shouts “VERONICA MARS” like he’s a villain from Gotham.

  • Keith’s office has one photo.  And that’s Veronica, of course.
  • Oh man.  Keith is destroying evidence. This is not good.
  • DEPUTY LEO!  He has no lines…  I wonder if there was a cut scene.
  • So Veronica & Mac finally get the videos which of course are the confessions. They look at Gory’s which is all about his family hiding literal bodies. Why would anyone confess to that?  Just to get into a secret society?  It’s idiocy.
  • So Logan beats someone else up and we’re all supposed to swoon.
  • Oh no.  Destroying evidence cost Keith a lot.
  • And that’s that.  The end of the Veronica Mars series. So many things left unsaid; so many stories left open.  And that’s ok.  BECAUSE HULU.
